Despite the current economic climate, the mechanical and electrical engineering design company's aerospace division is currently conducting trials with a number of Indian and Chinese companies with a view to strengthening its supply chain.
MB Faber is expected to complete the trials later this year and it is hoped that this will help improve the company's global standing and increase its competitiveness.
Ian Eaves, MB Faber's business development director, said: "The expansion of our global manufacturing supply chain has always been one of our key objectives and these trials are just one of a number of initiatives we are currently undertaking to help improve our competitiveness. Our clients have exacting standards and strict delivery timescales, so it's important that we maintain a robust and effective supply chain."
Established in 1988, MB Faber employs over 130 design engineers at its main offices in Leyland and in Cumbria and it operates in both the aerospace and nuclear industries. In November 2008, MB Faber completed the acquisition of engineering design company Remac Ltd, a move which significantly enhanced its engineering resources.
The company's aerospace services include the design and supply of wing and engine tooling, ground support equipment and test rigs, while its nuclear division specialises in the design of nuclear mechanical handling plant and equipment. MB Faber (Nuclear) also undertakes the design and installation of plant control systems.
Carl Roberts, general manager of MB Faber's Aerospace and Nuclear Mechanical Divisions, said: "We are enjoying great success in supporting major design and supply contracts for commercial and military aircraft programmes in aero-structure, aero-engine and test programmes. I can't remember an extended period where we have been so busy working on contracts and bidding for work from the major aerospace manufacturers."
Derek May, managing director of MB Faber, added: "I am delighted that our aerospace business is so buoyant at a time when we are also experiencing rapid growth in our nuclear divisions. Growth brings with it a number of managerial challenges, but they are welcomed challenges and it really is encouraging to see MB Faber perform so well."
