Jakob Nielsen's Column
In Jacob Nielsen latest column he discusses video on the web. These are becoming more and more widespread as broadband and higher bandwidth use become common. Unfortunately it doesn't always work terribly well.
Nielsen gives some recommendations. Far and away the most important is to KEEP IT SHORT. He reckons a minute is long enough!
Nielsen comes up with the word "repurposing", which is apparently a bad thing to do.
That is, the notion that content created for one medium will work well in another.
He has been hammering on about this for some years now, and the point remains valid. A website is not the same as a brochure, or a tv, and web content needs to be treated differently from brochure or tv advertising content.
To quote his telling words
"The Web is its own medium. We seem doomed to learn this lesson again and again."
